First and foremost, we want to build camaraderie and community around a passion for photographs that reflect and shape our world, especially at this critical juncture where our shared humanity seems both precarious and necessary. We are committed to partnering with other photographic community organizations and recognize that together we make a stronger community by sharing resources. One way of building that community is through classes that invite photographers in various stages of their practice to come together, learn, support, and deepen their practice. Our instructors are well-regarded for their photographic practice, their teaching, and their support of students. In our pilot phase, we will have fixed pricing that reflects a commitment to supporting teachers as workers while striving for affordability. But as we expand, we aim to roll out dynamic pricing that acknowledges both teacher workload and provides opportunity for folks of different means to participate. Classes for Summer and Fall 2026 will be held at our community partner Filter Photo (1821 West Hubbard).

Through free, public discussion groups, readings, exhibitions, and community events, we are committed to opening a dialogue about expanded definitions of documentary practice. At a time when photography may seem threatened by its very ubiquity or the existential threat of AI, we champion photography’s capability to reflect the social, political, cultural, and natural world and shape our engagement with it as humans with agency and impact.
