Critique Group
Join the Chicago Foto League for our monthly critique group, held every third Monday of the month, from 6-8pm, at Filter Photo. See our upcoming events page for a full list of dates and details. Our instructors and guest artists will guide you through two hours of thoughtful critiques of work brought in by members of our photography community. Come to have your work critiqued, participate in the conversation, or simply spectate. It's a great chance to connect with fellow photographers, dive into rich discussion about our craft, and learn from the perspectives and experiences of your peers. Our critique groups are completely free and open to the public, so bring a friend and come be part of the conversation. Complete our sign-up form if you'd like to have your work critiqued!

Chicago Foto League's mission centers on documentary photography and lens-based artwork that bears witness to social issues. That perspective shapes how we approach critique. We have a particular interest in work grounded in real people, places, and things. Creative and expansive interpretations of documentary photography are welcome.

A critique is a chance to receive thoughtful feedback on your artwork from instructors, guest artists, and members of our community. We believe critique should be rooted in generosity: we're not here to tear each other down, but to build each other up. While the subject matter or ideas presented may challenge our opinions and worldviews, we expect everyone in attendance to keep discussion respectful. We want participants to feel free to take risks, make mistakes, and learn and grow together.
-
We select up to 6 photographers that have completed the sign-up form.
We prioritize artists that have not had the opportunity to show work with us before.
Based on the dates that you are available, we will select a session and email you.
Can't make your date? Let us know ASAP so we can reschedule.
Feel free to bring work in case a selected artist doesn’t show.
-
We recommend that you select 15-20 photographs.
The work should be selected thoughtfully and demonstrate a clear subject.
We recommend bringing small prints, though you're welcome to show your work digitally.
If you're showing work, please arrive a little early to hang prints or prepare your digital files.
